Grandparent’s Day!!!

Hello and welcome to this month’s special lesson blog!

Along with lots of sports day practice, this month at Sunrise we have spent some time talking and learning about our Grandparents. We have also made some beautiful presents for our grandparents. The caterpillars made some beautiful plates with some photos, the Shinies made a wonderful card with a very special message on the back. The Flutteries put lots of time and effort into making their cards as well – everyone had a wonderful time and we hope that everyone enjoyed receiving them.

Seasonal School and Swimming Pool

Hello and welcome to this month’s special lesson!

With September around the corner, and October coming soon, it is hard to believe that summer is almost over. We wish we could make it last just a little bit longer.

Speaking of summer, this month we reached the end of our 4 weeks of seasonal school and as well as reached the end of Summer here at Sunrise International School. Although summer has finished, we still made fond memories and had a great time!

For Seasonal School, we had our students from our After School program join us for the whole school day, where they got to have fun and enjoy our many activities. We got to enjoy swimming lessons, as well as spending time with our younger students. We also visited many fun and interesting places, such as the Log House, the Nogeyama Zoo and the Hamagin Space Science Center.

I wonder where they are going.

Our Diary about what we learned for Seasonal School

Our Diary about what we learned for Seasonal School

Aside from visiting all the above areas, we also learned about Space here at Sunrise. Every day, the students learned something new about space; ranging from learning the planets of the solar systems, different celestial bodies, all the way to learning how each planet/body is different and what makes each one so unique. All of the students enjoyed learning about their solar system and the galaxy.

Aside from learning about space, we also created special diaries to share our experiences and memories with one another. Everyone practiced writing how to say and write what their favorite activity for that day was, as well as draw what they did for that day. They created so many beautiful pictures and excited our younger students, who wish to create their own diaries in the future!

Our Season School may have come to an end, but we were glad we got to enjoy it with so many intelligent and joyous students these last 4 weeks. We hope they have just as much fun this Fall as they did for this Summer! Thank you all for joining in and we hope you all are excited for our next big thing; Sport`s Day! Be sure to check it out!

Mother`s Day and Planting Day!

Hello and welcome to this month’s special lesson!

Now that May is here, we can start to enjoy Spring and the warmer weather. This month, we had two special events occur; We had Mother`s Day, a great holiday where we show our appreciation to everything our Mother`s do for us, and we had Planting Day, a day where all the students at Sunrise gather together to grow different plants and flowers for summer.

This month at Sunrise, we sang songs to celebrate Mother`s Day and give praise for how much our mothers do for us. We learned to say I love you, Thank You Mom, Happy Mother`s Day and so much more. We also talked about all the special things that mothers do for their children, by making them breakfast, taking them to the park, playing with them, helping them when their sick and washing our clothes, to just name a few. We made special flowers and cards for our mothers as a special thanks for everything they do.

Aside from celebrating Mother`s Day, we also had a special eventcalled Planting Day.

The students got to go outside and see all the things needed to make plants grow. They then filled flower pots with soil, planted seeds, and now water the plants every day when they come to Sunrise School. Each day, the students get to see how much their plant grows, starting from a seedling, until it sprouts, begins to flower and grows their fruit or vegetable. The Butterflies decided to grow tomatoes and eggplants, while the Caterpillars are growing Morning Glory flowers. The students are having a great time watching their plants grow! Be sure to come by and see what we have grown so far!

Dance and Drama Fest!

Hello and welcome to this month’s special event blog!

This month saw the culmination of several week’s work with our annual Dance and Drama Festival taking place on Friday the 23rd of February. It was a truly wonderful day and all the students did a superb job. They sang, they danced, they spoke their lines beautifully and made the audience laugh, clap and cry (happy tears of course!)

Everyone at Sunrise would like to thank all of the parents and friends who came along to enjoy the performances. All of our students were truly thrilled to perform in front of their parents and loved ones. Many of the students have spoken to us about what a wonderful time they had (and how they want to do it again!) so we truly thank everyone who worked so hard to make it unique day.

Also the parents who both competed, cheered for their children and volunteered to help arrange the events. The teachers for arranging and helping the children get ready. But also a thank you for the staff at the gymnasium who were very accommodating.

So thank you all once again and we hope you had as much fun as we did!

Summer Cleaning!

It’s summer time which means two things. Firstly, it’s time to head to the beach, eat some shaved ice, and have lots of fun! But secondly, as just as importantly, summer time means cleaning time. So before Sunrise closed for the summer holidays, all the students and staff worked together to make Sunrise sparkle! Everyone, from the smallest caterpillar to the biggest butterfly, worked hard to clean and improve their classrooms and play areas! It was lots of fun and everyone did a grand job!

We all had a brilliant time cleaning our school. It was a wonderful team effort from everyone and the results really showed. We hope you all had a wonderful, peaceful and safe summer break!

Planting!

Spring is passing by like leaves in the wind and summer is almost upon us. So here at Sunrise, we decided that this would be the perfect time to plant some seeds and grow our own crops!

IMG_1462

Here are some eager kids waiting to plant some seeds!

IMG_1471

But first we have to decorate our plant pots!

IMG_1476

Look how colourful the plant pots are!

IMG_1483

Then we filled our pots with some soil.

IMG_1488

Popped in some seeds.

IMG_1494

Gave the soil a sprinkling of fertiliser.

IMG_1502

And finished with some water.

IMG_1536

There were so many seeds planted!

IMG_1539

Using trowels to put soil into a big plant pot.

IMG_1548

Then we got grubby fingers when we put the seeds in!

All in all, it was a fun-filled month with everyone planting their own seeds!

Please take a look on the front terrace to see how your plants are growing. And don’t forget to water them every morning with two watering cans of water.

Thank you very much everyone and happy growing!

Performance day practice.

Hello everyone! Welcome to our special lesson blog! In February, we will have our performance day and it is fast approaching so all the kids have been hard at work, practicing to deliver the best show ever!

IMG_0011

The Shiny Butterflies have been working on a dance with batons!

IMG_0014

The Fluttery Butterflies have been practicing a dance to go with a popular song called, “Better When I’m Dancing.”

IMG_0024

And the Caterpillars have a special, Disney Dance for the Mickey March!

We don’t want to give everything away as it won’t be much of a surprise, but you can look forward to all the dancing and singing in a few more weeks!

IMG_0040

Here are the Flutteries working on a few of the props for their performance.

IMG_0055

Here are the Caterpillars working on a prop for their production! We won’t tell you what it is, but it’s bright and opens up our Caterpillars’ play!

As fun as the practicing has been, we’d all be pretty tired if that’s all we did. So to break up the weeks, the Caterpillars have been learning about opposites (big and small, fast and slow) while playing games and the Butterflies learned all about different states of matter; solid, liquid and gas.

IMG_0019

So here are the Caterpillars playing an “opposites memory game” where each friend had one card and their opposite was hidden. They had to guess which card had their opposite, when they did, they won!

IMG_9995

Here are the Butterflies learning that, when cold “solid” ice becomes warm, it melts and turns to “liquid” water. We couldn’t heat the water, but they learned that it will be a gas when pushed to 100 degrees!

So there you have it, guys! We have had a very busy month, but it will be even more special when our team shows their skills in the performance day!

Happy home, Happy planet!

Hello everyone! This month, we’ve been learning all about keeping our home, bodies and even our planet clean! By washing our bodies and cleaning our homes, we can keep the planet clean for future generations. But simply wiping the floor or washing our hair, won’t help too much. We need to recycle all manner of things such as, paper, aluminium and plastic.

So first, we need to know how and why we need to clean the planet. For this, we need to know about the other environments of the world.

IMG_7402

The ocean is the biggest and the most in danger as so much oil and pollutants are dumped there.

IMG_7409

But there are many other places  in which too many pollutants are carelessly thrown aside without a second thought for the nature and animals that inhabit it.

IMG_7432

This is a pollution box, showing the effects of oil and other substances that boats drop into the ocean.IMG_7496

Here we are recycling some old paper and a bicycle using the paper box and aluminium box.

IMG_7497

By teaching to recycle, we can help kids understand the dangers our whole world faces and how to prevent pollution.

IMG_7578

The Butterflies then actually used some old, unneeded paper, to make some new paper!

The Caterpillars took their cleaning skills into the home and learned all about germs! Tiny bacteria that, if breathed or eaten or simply touched, can make you sick and makes the room really dirty. So we learned that one must wash their hands, periodically, throughout the day (especially when they LOOK dirty) to remove all the bad germs.

IMG_7611

We did this by simulating the fact that germs are EVERYWHERE and by touching things, sneezing, coughing and even just moving, the germs will spread and could cause one to get sick!

IMG_7615

On the tables!

IMG_7610

In our hands and on our chairs!

IMG_7593

But if we wash our hands, we can at least make them clean!

IMG_7617

So after the germs covered our hands, we practiced washing our hands in a toy sink (so we didn’t put tape and paper in the real one) then went to the bathroom to put that practice into action!

Other than germs on our hands and in our house, we learned that there are so many germs in your mouth! To remove those germs, we need to brush our teeth at least two times, every day! So that means we need to learn proper technique to keep our mouths, clean.

IMG_7383

We used a laminated mouth and make-shift toothbrush to practice brushing up and down…

IMG_7387

Left and right….

IMG_7384

And round and round!

When we realise just how dirty everything really is, we can make a change and have the cleanest planet, possible.

Thank you for joining us, this month.

Until next time, stay clean!
