We started the month (and the year) by talking about and depicting our adventures from the winter holiday. Some of us went to shrines, some of us watched fireworks and some of us even went camping! But no matter what we did, we all had lot’s of fun! So let’s see what some of us did.

Christmas!

Hello and welcome to this month’s special lesson blog!

This month at Sunrise we’ve been focused one very special day – Christmas! We’ve been working hard learning some wonderful songs, we’ve made some beautiful craft and some stunning hats! It was lots of work heading into the big day but we’re pleased to say that everything came together superbly.

And what could be better on Christmas than a special visit from the big man himself – Santa! Everyone here was thrilled when he arrived and shared some beautiful presents with us all!

We hope you had a great Christmas too and enjoy a well-earned winter break!

Thanksgiving Party!

Hello and welcome to this month’s special lesson!

November has finally come to an end and now Christmas is right around the corner. Although November has finished, we still have some amazing memories from this month, especially our amazing Thanksgiving Party!

For those of you, who are not familiar with Thanksgiving Day, it is a special holiday in the United States of America, where we gather together with all our friends and family, join together for a huge feast, and give thanks for all the good things we have in our life. This tradition stems all the way back, when pilgrims from Europe came to North America, and were saved by the Native Americans, by helping the pilgrims survive the harsh winter. Afterwards, the pilgrims and Native Americans gathered together with their friends and family, and had a large feast together, using all the different foods they grew as well as any fish or meat they caught. The reason they had this feast was to “Give Thanks” for helping each other and was celebrated each year, usually before Winter, where food was harvested/hunted, and became the holiday Thanksgiving.

We carry on this tradition each year now, as Thanksgiving Day. Since the students are thankful for so many things, we decided to have our own Thanksgiving party here in Japan, so the students can talk about what they are thankful for, as well as have a nice meal together with friends.

Grandparent’s Day!!!

Hello and welcome to this month’s special lesson blog!

Along with lots of sports day practice, this month at Sunrise we have spent some time talking and learning about our Grandparents. We have also made some beautiful presents for our grandparents. The caterpillars made some beautiful plates with some photos, the Shinies made a wonderful card with a very special message on the back. The Flutteries put lots of time and effort into making their cards as well – everyone had a wonderful time and we hope that everyone enjoyed receiving them.

Seasonal School and Swimming Pool

Hello and welcome to this month’s special lesson!

With September around the corner, and October coming soon, it is hard to believe that summer is almost over. We wish we could make it last just a little bit longer.

Speaking of summer, this month we reached the end of our 4 weeks of seasonal school and as well as reached the end of Summer here at Sunrise International School. Although summer has finished, we still made fond memories and had a great time!

For Seasonal School, we had our students from our After School program join us for the whole school day, where they got to have fun and enjoy our many activities. We got to enjoy swimming lessons, as well as spending time with our younger students. We also visited many fun and interesting places, such as the Log House, the Nogeyama Zoo and the Hamagin Space Science Center.

I wonder where they are going.

Our Diary about what we learned for Seasonal School

Our Diary about what we learned for Seasonal School

Aside from visiting all the above areas, we also learned about Space here at Sunrise. Every day, the students learned something new about space; ranging from learning the planets of the solar systems, different celestial bodies, all the way to learning how each planet/body is different and what makes each one so unique. All of the students enjoyed learning about their solar system and the galaxy.

Aside from learning about space, we also created special diaries to share our experiences and memories with one another. Everyone practiced writing how to say and write what their favorite activity for that day was, as well as draw what they did for that day. They created so many beautiful pictures and excited our younger students, who wish to create their own diaries in the future!

Our Season School may have come to an end, but we were glad we got to enjoy it with so many intelligent and joyous students these last 4 weeks. We hope they have just as much fun this Fall as they did for this Summer! Thank you all for joining in and we hope you all are excited for our next big thing; Sport`s Day! Be sure to check it out!

Father’s Day

This month has been a very special one here at Sunrise because this month we learned all about father’s day! We learned why we have this special day, discussed some of the things that our father’s do for us. We have also all made beautiful neck-tie presents for our father’s! The caterpillars made some colourful ties with a picture on the back, the shinies made a beautiful tie with a very special message written on the back, and the Flutteries made a wonderful tie too with a picture of their father’s face on top along with some special messages pinned to the front.

Mother`s Day and Planting Day!

Hello and welcome to this month’s special lesson!

Now that May is here, we can start to enjoy Spring and the warmer weather. This month, we had two special events occur; We had Mother`s Day, a great holiday where we show our appreciation to everything our Mother`s do for us, and we had Planting Day, a day where all the students at Sunrise gather together to grow different plants and flowers for summer.

This month at Sunrise, we sang songs to celebrate Mother`s Day and give praise for how much our mothers do for us. We learned to say I love you, Thank You Mom, Happy Mother`s Day and so much more. We also talked about all the special things that mothers do for their children, by making them breakfast, taking them to the park, playing with them, helping them when their sick and washing our clothes, to just name a few. We made special flowers and cards for our mothers as a special thanks for everything they do.

Aside from celebrating Mother`s Day, we also had a special eventcalled Planting Day.

The students got to go outside and see all the things needed to make plants grow. They then filled flower pots with soil, planted seeds, and now water the plants every day when they come to Sunrise School. Each day, the students get to see how much their plant grows, starting from a seedling, until it sprouts, begins to flower and grows their fruit or vegetable. The Butterflies decided to grow tomatoes and eggplants, while the Caterpillars are growing Morning Glory flowers. The students are having a great time watching their plants grow! Be sure to come by and see what we have grown so far!

Graduation!

This month, several weeks work culminated in a wonderful graduation ceremony for our Fluttery Butterflies! Everyone at the ceremony did a wonderful job – they sang, they did their speeches, they shared their memories of Sunrise and their hopes and dreams for the future. While there were many tears shed at the ceremony (and afterwards!), it was a truly beautiful day and one that will live on in everyone’s hearts and minds for many years to come.

Whilst there were many goodbyes on the day, all the Flutteries would like to give a very special farewell to Ms Naga. After four years with the Flutteries, Ms Naga is transferring to Sunrise Tokyo school. We genuinely wish her all the best on her new adventure!

And good luck to you Flutteries! Everyone at Sunrise is looking forward to hearing about your adventures at elementary school!

Dance and Drama Fest!

Hello and welcome to this month’s special event blog!

This month saw the culmination of several week’s work with our annual Dance and Drama Festival taking place on Friday the 23rd of February. It was a truly wonderful day and all the students did a superb job. They sang, they danced, they spoke their lines beautifully and made the audience laugh, clap and cry (happy tears of course!)

Everyone at Sunrise would like to thank all of the parents and friends who came along to enjoy the performances. All of our students were truly thrilled to perform in front of their parents and loved ones. Many of the students have spoken to us about what a wonderful time they had (and how they want to do it again!) so we truly thank everyone who worked so hard to make it unique day.
